Description
This mid 19th century nature painting titled ‘The Rocky Mountains, Lander's Peak’ by Albert Bierstadt features the Wind River Range of the Rocky Mountains in what is present-day Wyoming, with the Shoshone peoples depicted in the picture’s foreground. The German-born artist shaped the visual identity of the American West in the US and abroad through his artwork, which he created based on his trip as part of a government survey expedition that was headed by Frederick W. Lander to the Nebraska Territory.
