Description
This late 19th century lithograph print titled ‘Lights and shadows of horse racing’ features the festive atmosphere that characterized the horse racing sport in America, especially after the American Civil War. Horse racing in America started with the British settlers in the 17th century when the first race-track was laid out in Long Island, but it was only towards the mid 19th century that it assumed an organized nature and the American Stud Book was started.
