Description
This late 19th century US Military History photo features a seated Buffalo soldier in uniform. Buffalo soldiers were members of six all-black cavalry and infantry regiments created in 1866 after Congress passed the Army Organization Act. Their main tasks entailed controlling the Native Americans of the Plains, capturing cattle rustlers and thieves and protecting settlers, stagecoaches, wagon trains and railroad crews along the Western front.
