Description
This late 19th century British Maritime History print features a panoramic view of the steamers dotting Calcutta Harbour, which was established by the British East India Company after having sought trading rights from Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. When the power shifted to the British Crown, the harbour and the steamers came under the Port Commission in 1870 and was mostly commercial, although it played an important role in the Second World War.
