Description
This late 19th century Native American History photo features three Apache men including Chief James A. Garfield, Pouche Te Foya and Sanches. Apache, or North American Indians, under such leaders as Cochise, Mangas Coloradas, Geronimo, and Victorio, played a seminal role in the Southwest region’s history and their name is derived from a Spanish word ápachu, meaning “enemy” in Zuñi.
