Description
This late 19th century US History photo by J.H. Bratley features Chief Red Cloud, an important Lakota leader during the 19th-century land battle between the Native Americans and the US Government, at 77 years of age. His Lakota name being Mahpiua Luta, he successfully resisted development of the Bozeman trail through Montana territory and led the opposition against the development of the road through Wyoming and Montana for two years, a phase that came to be known as Red Cloud's War.
