This mid 20th century US Coast Guard History print features a small Coast Guard boat, accompanied by the text “Operators of small boats enlist now! US Coast Guard”, the intention being to encourage small boat owners to enlist in the US Coast Guard at the “Recruiting Station, 146 Baronne St., New Orleans, Louisiana”. During the Second World War, Bill No. 5966 was introduced by US Representative from Virginia, Schuyler Otis Bland, to create a Coast Guard Reserve that would serve as a volunteer civilian force for promoting small boat safety and facilitating Coast Guard operations.
