This late 19th century Military History photo features Theodore Roosevelt, 26th US President, holding binoculars at a time when he was serving as a Lieutenant Colonel in the 1st US Volunteer Cavalry of the US Army. During the Spanish-American War, Roosevelt led the Rough Rider Regiment on a charge at the battle of San Juan, and emerged as one of the most conspicuous war heroes. Photo taken on October 14, 1898.
