Description
This late 19th century US Military History photo features Colonel Theodore Roosevelt on his horse at the Rough Riders military camp, Montauk Point, New York. Theodore Roosevelt and his Rough Riders had quarantined at Montauk Point following the Spanish-American War in Cuba, and although the conditions were no better than the Cuban battlefields initially, public outcry and investigation led to improvements like construction of two hospitals, electrical power plant and establishment of a military band.
