This late 19th century US Presidential History photo features Colonel Theodore Roosevelt, when he had resigned from the position of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy to organize the Rough Riders, the first volunteer cavalry in the Spanish-American War. The war was against Spain's colonial policies with Cuba, and Colonel Roosevelt emerged a war-hero, after which he went on to serve as the 26th US President. Photo taken on September 22, 1898.
