Description
This late 20th century US Naval History photo features Commodore Grace Hopper, who rose to the rank of Rear Admiral in the US Navy, and is most well-known for developing COBOL, one of the first high-level programming languages. She also invented the first compiler, a program for translating programming code to machine language, despite being considered underweight and overage for military service at 105 pounds and 34 years of age respectively. Photo taken on January 20, 1984.
