This mid 19th century US Transportation History photo features the locomotive "E.M. Stanton," built in 1862 and named for the secretary of war, on a turntable at the Alexandria railroad station. Named after Edwin McMasters Stanton, who was the secretary of war for most part of the American Civil War, this 4-6-0 locomotive was built for the USMRR (United States Military Railroad) was painted in candy colors and colorful pinstripes.
