Description
This mid 20th century US Military History photo features women workers installing fixtures and assemblies to a tail fuselage section of a B-17 bomber at the Long Beach, California plant of the Douglas Aircraft Company. Owing to thousands of workers having been drafted by the military during the Second World War, aircraft manufacturing plants hired women and sustained production with a 40% female workforce.
