This print features a Series 1891 $500 Proof of a Treasury Note bearing the picture of William Sherman along with the signatures of William Starke Rosecrans and Enos H. Nebecker. Sherman was Commanding General (1869–83) of the US Army who marched to and captured Savannah, Georgia, during the American Civil War.
