Description
This late 19th century US Social History print features Harriet Tubman, who was born Araminta Ross in Dorchester County, Maryland, as a slave and was beaten, whipped and ill-treated by her masters as a child. After having escaped to Philadelphia, she returned to Maryland and rescued her family and also other slaves traveling by night under the cover of secrecy and relying on safehouses referred to as the Underground Railroad.
