Description
This mid 19th century US Entertainment History print features a seemingly African American man dressed in tattered clothes walking/dancing accompanied by animals that are dressed as humans and are strolling alongside a river featuring a steamboat and sailboat. Throughout the 1830s and '40s, Thomas Dartmouth Rice, a white entertainer, performed a song-and-dance sequence mimicking a slave, wherein he named the character Jim Crow, darkened his face, and used an exaggerated African American accent.
