This early 20th century US History photo features John Philip Sousa, an American composer popularly known as the “March King” or the “American March King” and credited with having developed the sousaphone, a large brass instrument like the helicon and tuba. During his career he composed 136 military marches, which include the “Semper Fidelis”, the official march of the US Marine Corps, “The Washington Post”, “The Liberty Bell”, and “The Stars and Stripes Forever”.
