Description
This mid 19th century US Railroad History print features a United States Military Railroad (USMR) locomotive, W.H. Whiton, and the president's rail car, which was later used as President Lincoln's funeral car. USMR was established by the US War Department as a separate agency to operate any rail lines seized by the government during the American Civil War, and President Abraham Lincoln was granted the authority to seize control of the railroads and telegraph for military use in January 1862.
