Description
This early 20th century Native American History photo features three Native American men, in traditional clothing, posed as if performing a snake dance. Performed by the individual Hopi tribes in Arizona once in two years, the Snake Dance represents the grand finale of ceremonies to pray for rain. The Hopi tribes believe that their ancestors originated in an underworld, and still reside there along with their gods and the spirits.
