Description
This mid 19th century US Military History print features the Union soldiers as they storm Fort Wagner’s walls on Morris Island, South Carolina. Although the Battle of Fort Wagner lacked the strategic importance of Gettysburg, it was a turning point in the American Civil War owing to being a galvanizing victory for freedom, given that the flag bearer for Union Army’s 54th Massachusetts Regiment was William Carney, an escaped slave.
