This late 19th century US Geographic History photo features the Upper Twin Lake, one of the two naturally formed glacial lakes located at the base of Mount Elbert, the highest peak in Colorado. The lakes serve as principal tourist attractions around Leadville, Colorado, and can be approached via Colorado State Highway 82, wherein the historic area consists of two communities, namely Interlaken and Twin Lakes Village.
