This mid 20th century US Military History photo features Marcellus G. Smith, from Louisville, Kentucky, along with Roscoe C. Brown, from New York, working on the NY Class 44-C. P-SC#11, while "Tootsie," in the background was assigned to Lowell Steward in Ramitelli, Italy. The Tuskegee Airmen were the first black military aviators in the US Army Air Corps who were trained at the Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama, and flew more than 15,000 individual sorties in Europe and North Africa during the Second World War.
