Description
This mid 20th century US Military History photo features American soldiers of the 289th Infantry Regiment as they march through the snow on their way to cut off the Saint Vith-Houffalize road in Belgium. Named after Saint Vitus, the route was fought over repeatedly during the Second World War courtesy the Battle of Bulge and other skirmishes between both American and German forces, and eventually was taken over by the US Army following an air raid. Photo taken on January 24, 1945.
