Description
This mid 19th century US Geographic History painting titled ‘View from Mount Holyoke, Northampton, Massachusetts, after a Thunderstorm—The Oxbow’ by Thomas Cole features The Oxbow, which is also known as the Ox-Bow, an extension of the Connecticut River, which is located in Northampton, Massachusetts. In the past, the Oxbow was connected directly to the Connecticut River as a large U-shaped bend, but after the 1840 flood, waters cut through the narrow section and separated the bend from the main river.
