Description
This mid 20th century US Military History photo features a woman working in the Douglas Aircraft Company plant wherein she is giving finishing touches to the nose section of a B-17F bomber used by the US Navy. Also known as the ‘Flying Fortress’, the B-17F was the successor of the B-17, and was a long-range high-altitude heavy bomber which proved itself suitable for daylight missions owing to its armament carrying capacity. Photo by Alfred T. Palmer, 1942.
