Description
This mid 19th century US History print features the "Holy War", the 19th-century crusade for temperance and prohibition, which was predominantly advocated by clergymen and women. A young woman in armor riding a black horse leads a group of similarly garbed women on foot and on horseback, wherein with large battle-axes they shatter barrels of beer, whiskey, gin, rum, and "Wine & Liquors." In the background are two banners that proclaim "In the Name of God and Humanity" and "Temperance League."
