This mid 20th century US Construction History photo features a man suspended by ropes and removing blemishes from the downstream face of the Friant Dam on the upper San Joaquin River, California. A concrete gravity dam, Friant Dam, was built as part of a US Bureau of Reclamation water project to provide water for irrigation to the southern San Joaquin Valley.
