Description
This early 20th century European Military History photo features a view of a trench used by soldiers during the First World War. Trench warfare defined most of the battles during the First World War wherein armies on both sides dug longer, deeper and sturdier trenches that were reinforced with steel and concrete and were regarded as being more effective than a chain of forts, although they caused attrition, stalemate and sieges.
