This mid 19th century US Social History print features Frederick Douglass, an American abolitionist leader who was born into slavery sometime around 1818 in Talbot County, Maryland, and escaped to evolve into a prominent social reformer. During the American Civil War, he emerged as one of the most famous intellectuals, who often advised presidents and lectured to thousands on a wide range of issues, like women's rights and Irish home rule. Photo taken on April 26, 1870.
