This early 20th century US Military History photo features Benoni Briggs, a veteran of the American Civil War belonging to GAR Reno Post No 9, with a uniformed soldier serving in the First World War. GAR, an acronym that stood for the Grand Army of the Republic, was a fraternal organization that was founded in 1886 in Illinois and consisted of the veterans of the American Civil War, mainy from the Union army, Union Navy, the Marines and the US Revenue Cutter Service.
