Description
This early 20th century Entertainment History photo features Geraldine Farrar, an American soprano who was known for her beauty, dramatic talent and the intimate timbre of her voice, dressed in costume as Joan of Arc and holding a flag. Having made her American debut at the Metropolitan Opera, New York City, in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette in 1906, she went on to sing the Cio-Cio-San in the Met’s first performance of Madama Butterfly, along with Louise Homer and Caruso and in the presence of Giacomo Puccini.
