Description
This mid 19th century British Fine Arts History artwork titled ‘The Thames in Ice’ by James Abbott McNeill Whistler features a specific moment of the river during a bitterly cold winter when it had remained frozen for more than fourteen weeks. After the artist had moved from Paris to London in 1859, he regarded River Thames to be a constant source of inspiration, and originally titled “The Twenty-fifth of December 1860. On the Thames,” he claimed to have completed it in three days while staying at an inn overlooking the river.
